THE LIVING SEA

The rough and organic ever-changing forms of the ocean floor reinvent themselves in the hands of Riek Sanderse. Her work appears raw and unpolished, while simultaneously capturing the refined details of the open sea. The irregular surfaces and wide range of colour blend naturally to create an almost intuitive combination of accents.

The pieces are hand-formed using chamotte clay. The colours are applied in layers and then baked in an electrical oven at temperatres of 1,000º – 1,300ºC.
